I don’t watch a lot of TV…
But I caught an advert for the UK soap opera, Coronation Street, which can help you get in the right mindset when it comes to effective marketing on social media.
The advert is set on a train in 1959, where scriptwriter Tony Warren shared an idea for a new program with his TV producer travelling companion:
“Olive, I’ve got this wonderful idea for a television series”, he said.
“I can see a little back street, with a pub at one end and a shop at the other, and all the lives of the people there. Just ordinary things”.
“How boring”, came the reply.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Olive wasn’t wrong, though.
Soap operas generally ARE boring for the most part…
But that’s what makes them so compelling.
People are fascinated by other people and their lives.
They are desperate to know what happens next.
Which is why more than 10,000 episodes of Corrie have been aired over the past 60 years.
I liken a social media profile to that of a soap opera…
Where each post is its own episode and you can introduce new characters, themes and storylines.
Post about your own life and you will never run out of content!
Case in point:
I wrote about being delivered the wrong sofa last week…
A story, which judging by my Messenger activity, has had people, literally, on the edge of their seats.
If you’re claiming to be a marketer on social media but are not giving potential customers a “peek behind the curtain” through your content…
Frankly, you’re doing it all wrong.
There’s money in the mundane…
Dollars in the day-to-day…
And riches in the routine.
I can’t promise you 60 years, but get in touch and let me help set you up for a soap opera-esque level of success!
